    48. Had to do /go, should have done/gone

Bài 48. HAD TO DO/GO (PHẢI LÀM/ ĐI), SHOULD HAVE DONE/GONE (ĐÚNG RA PHẢI LÀM/ ĐI; LẼ RA PHẢI LÀM/ ĐI)

    1. Hãy xem ví dụ sau:

Julia had to wait an hour for a bus.

I didn't have to work last Saturday.
(Tôi không phải làm việc hôm thứ bảy vừa rồi.)
(= Tôi không làm việc bởi vì không cần thiết.)

Câu hỏi sẽ có dạng như sau: “did ... have to…”:

Did you have to work last Saturday?

    2. Bây giờ hãy xem tình huống sau:

Philip's job includes working on Saturday.

Last Saturday, he was ill, so he didn't work:
Philip should have gone to work last Saturday, but he was ill. So he stayed at home.

Chúng ta sử dụng “should have (done/gone…)”

Paul, a farm worker, didn't close a gate, and the cows got into the wrong field: Paul should have closed the gate.

Chúng ta sử dụng “shouldn't have (done/gone…)”

I shouldn't have treated Julia badly.

Paul shouldn't have left the gate open.
